About me: The origins and ideas of the AAπ Awareness Project.
Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Firstly, welcome to the AAπ Awareness Project! Or lengthened, the AAPI/Asian American and Pacific Islander Awareness Project. My name is Henry Widjaja, an Asian American student at Cupertino High School in Cupertino, CA. I started this project because of the sheer amount of misunderstandings that presented itself during the COVID-19 pandemic and simply the amount of change that had effect on the community in the area and across the USA. With such an unusual duality between normal life and the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to deal with the subsequent impacts on minorities as the country descended into unrest. Focusing on the disproportionate and unusual rise in violence against those who are of AAPI background, I aim to raise awareness to the experiences and provide recognition to the innovative accomplishments of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. And, as a matter of fact, AAπ's writing style is not meant to be normal! In fact, AAπ's writing pieces intend to keep the interest of readers by writing uniquely, expressing facts and opinions with wordplay.
The Name "AAπ"
Double A and then pi...why?
One core AAπ project value of innovation present itself in this interesting spelling. The acronym AAPI - Asian American and Pacific Islanders - and the concept of Pi (π). An endless number, pi, portrays endless accomplishments and effort to recognize those of the AAPI population that are not recognized. Innovation stands to well-represent pi, both becoming more complex as times (or more numbers) go on. Thus, AA and PI replaced with π, keeping the original letter-only spelling of AAPI while also acting on one of our core values - that's ideal.
Writing and Spreading Truthful Content
As a person who really cares to spread truth, I hold myself accountable to do so with this project. I hold every article accountable to provide truth when factual - except, of course, opinionated articles. With the exorbitant amount of misinformation, the importance of reducing bias and incorrect information rises. That's why myself and the AAπ project commits itself to spreading logical opinions and, when made clear, facts.
Write about inclusion, truth, and...accomplishments?
Beneficial accomplishments mean an unfathomably large amount to the accomplisher, so celebrate it, don't forget it!
No matter what type of accomplishment someone recognizes they have gained, a person recognizes an accomplishment that has resulted in positive effects for themselves. Who would want to forget the first big test they aced all the way? A success of their longstanding project? Or something as simple as a working electrical circuit? So, let's celebrate it! I want to give those who have achieved something they are proud of, a chance to share it. Along with addressing problems about AAPI inclusion and the truth, it is also good to celebrate accomplishments that people in the AAPI population have achieved.
Let's keep going.
AAπ recognizes that there are no limits to writing. No limits to speaking. No limits to AAPI achievements. But, there's also no limits to exclusion and misinformation. So, let's celebrate those AAPI achievements. To combat misinformation. And to be more inclusive. These are the goals of the AAπ Awareness Project. Let's push those unlimited limits. Let's keep going.
